Save Time With Speech Recognition Software
Speech or voice recognition software for the PC and Mac has been available for many years now with off the shelf packages being offered by a variety of manufacturers. What has changed however is their accuracy and functionality between different platforms.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with speech recognition technology, it is essentially a computer program that utilizes a microphone connected to your computer to turn your speech into text most widely used in conjunction with word processing software such as Microsoft Word.
The software has come a long way since its first inception into the market enabling today’s software to not only allow you to turn your speech into text but to actually control your computer through voice commands eliminating the need for a mouse as well.
The average person can type 45 words per minute which is three times slower then they can talk. This suggests that there is a very large potential to increase working efficiency for any profession or even hobby that requires a lot of word processing.
Writers and students who need to write tremendous amounts of text will be among the most helped by such software as it will greatly speed up their work rate. Even business managers will find it useful to speed up their report writing and hit those deadlines on time while leaving precious time for generating those business winning ideas.
There is no doubt that voice recognition can be a great time management tool but it also has a secondary benefit that often goes unnoticed. Since all that is needed is a microphone one does not need to be at their computer when using the software.
You can sit on your sofa or even work from bed which makes it perfect for people with disabilities or even infrequent repetitive strain injury (RSI) sufferers as they can rest their hands, wrists, back, and neck as you no longer need to sit in one position to use a keyboard and mouse.
For real enthusiasts, why not purchase a wireless microphone headset and dictate to your computer while doing household chores such as cooking or cleaning. The potential is virtually limitless.
There has always been one underlying problem with off the self speech recognition software and that was their inaccuracy of interpreting your speech correctly, especially for people with strong dialects.
This was mainly due to the limited computer power of your average home computer 5 to 10 years ago as the software requires a lot of processing power to be accurate. Since today’s computer technology is much faster then five years ago the sought after accuracy is now a reality.
The top software programs have no trouble at being accurate at all and work well right out of the box and work perfectly within one or two hours of use after it configures to your dialect.
Voice recognition has now been reborn with the accuracy that it should have had from the start. Mobile phone manufacturers have recognized this and are using speech recognition in all their high end products. Top of the line GPS car systems also utilize it so why not take advantage of it on your PC and save yourself some precious time.

Speech Recognition Software – How You Can Triple Your Writing Speed
When you think of voice recognition software, what do you think of? I personally always envision the replicators on Start Trek where you tell it what you want to eat and the computer makes it for you. That’s probably just because I like to eat, and your ideal would be different to that.
We can all agree, however, on the fact that, being able to issue verbal commands to a computer that understands and carries out these commands, is incredible.
While we’re not at the stage yet where we’re able to dole out food orders, we can still do amazing things.
With the right software, you can:
* Dictate at normal talking speed
* Browse the internet hands free
* Navigate around other programs, virtually replacing your keyboard and/or mouse.
Let’s just think for a minute of how this can benefit you…
* If you do a lot of typing, data entry, you can cut your input time down dramatically. The best speech recognition software will be up to 3 times faster than a skilled typist, let alone a 1-finger typist.
* RSI and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome will be things of the past. So that’s something else you can cross off your list of worries. Assuming you were worried in the first place.
And it’s not just the time-saving features that are the most exciting.
Many people have problems typing, ranging from dyslexics to those physically unable to type. Speech recognition software is an absolute life-saver for anyone unable to use a keyboard. The freedom and chance for social interaction it will bring to so many people is something that even the most-able bodied, awesome typer among us will be able to appreciate.
The Trekkie (Trekker?) in me is over the moon. Being able to issue verbal commands to a computer is another step on the road to the future. The cynic says that I quite like typing and I’ve had loads of practice so I might not want to give it up. I don’t see the art of typing going the way of VHS quite yet, but speech recognition software is extremely exciting.
What’s also extremely exciting is my webpage where you can read speech recognition software reviews and find retailers you’ll want to compare.
Don’t be left behind typing 10 words a minute whilst everyone else is embracing the future, learn the pervasive beauty that is Dragon Naturally Speaking.

The Best Speech Recognition Software Available
Dragon Naturally Speaking is one of the best speech recognition software available on the market today. It comes in several different versions, depending upon your specific needs. Whether you simply need it to help you utilize the computer, because you have trouble using your hands, or you have a profession that will be greatly enhanced by the speed and ease of the best speech recognition software.
Personal and Professional
Dragon Naturally Speaking comes in several formats. It can do almost anything your fingers can type, once you have used it enough to perform the best speech recognition. The more you use the program, the better it becomes at understanding what you say, and how to properly use it for the particular program you are currently using.
For example, you may want to open, read, and send emails. Alternatively, you may want to transcribe a bunch of medical records for a work-at-home job, and your hands simply get tired before the job is done. Plus, the properly trained program can actually get done faster than you can type.
A Healthy Solution
The best speech recognition software can also be a healthy solution to medical concerns. For instance, people who spend all day typing at the computer often suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. The pain, tingling, and numbness eventually make it impossible to work and surgery is necessary. Also, many people suffer from debilitating arthritis that makes it extremely painful to use the computer. Even snail mail is not the answer, because it hurts to write.
But, with the best speech recognition software, both of these painful medical problems can be avoided or aided. Using your voice, you will be able to navigate most, if not all, of the functions needed for your personal or professional typing needs.

Speech Recognition Software Is Changing The Transcription Industry
<!– @page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } –>
The truth is that speech recognition software has been changing the transcription industry for quite a while. What continues to change is the incredible ability of this software to adapt and handle all of the different aspects of the medical transcription business. Speech recognition software was actually developed for other things, but it may have had the greatest effect on the medical transcription industry. The very core of this business is to take speech and convert it into a text file so that it can be used by other physicians and medical professionals.
In the early years, speech recognition software would allow a medical transcriptionist to take some kind of audio recording and convert it into text. Much has changed since those times; the medical transcriptionist now likely work for a company that has speech recognition software as part of an entire platform that will do the transcribing for them. Those that work for a company that has the latest software platform will not actually do the speech recognition themselves.
There are a number of challenges to developing speech recognition software that can work effectively in the medical industry. There are a number of terms that are used for illnesses, medicines or procedures that are specific to the medical industry and are difficult for speech recognition software to differentiate. The type of speech recognition software that is used for medical transcription must be far more robust than what would be used for regular dictation.
Another difficulty that regular speech recognition software would have is that it normally requires the user to insert punctuation and sentence breaks. If that was the case, the medical transcriptionist would be left with a file that would be very difficult to read and require quite a bit of manual intervention.
Instead, modern speech recognition software comes as part of a transcription platform that will allow for easy editing and correction of documents that have been delivered to the transcriptionist. When the software does the transcribing for them and delivers a document that is close to a finished product, the majority of the transcriptionists’ time will be spent reviewing that document and making the necessary changes. If they have a speech recognition software program that makes it easy for them to make these changes and has the full vocabulary required, it will increase their productivity substantially.
Some people might wonder if speech recognition software will once completely take the place of medical transcriptionists. This is a difficult scenario to imagine, as no matter how advanced it becomes the difficulty lies in the fact that human speech that is delivered to the system is often what is flawed. People may use contractions, colloquialisms or have difficult accents that are hard to program into software.
The change that this kind of speech recognition software brings and the platforms that it resides on have more to do with the productivity of individual medical transcriptionists. They will always be necessary, and medical transcription companies simply have to make them more productive by offering them tools that they can use easily.

NaturallySpeaking Speech Recognition Software Version 9, Just Announced
Nuance, has just allowed us to announce the upcoming release of their new speech recognition software, NaturallySpeaking Version 9. This new version is brimming with new features, the best of all is dramatic increases in accuracy.
Version 9 is more accurate than Version 8, with it Preferred and Professional versions being 20% more accurate, and the Medical version is a staggering 30% more accurate.
The engineers made multiple changes to reach this jump in accuracy. One of the more interesting changes, is they harvested actual documents and e-mails from business offices. They analyzed the word usage in these documents, to create a better model. Dragon not only listen to what you say, but uses this improved model, to better predict what words will follow other words within your dictation.
Version 9 has completely eliminated the need to read training texts to use the system. All you have to do is read two paragraphs, which sets the computers sound levels, and you are ready to dictate.
NaturallySpeaking’s upgrade, also allows you to dictate into more programs including Mozilla Firefor, Thunderbird, and now other programs that use industry standard edit windows.
Another breakthrough with this new version, is the ability to use Bluetooth cordless headsets, to dictate into your computer. So far, two Bluetooth units have been certified. Their engineers are now working to test and authorize even more Bluetooth units.
The software is scheduled to ship starting with the Preferred Version 9 being available on July 21. The Version 9 Professional is scheduled to be released on July 26th. Version 9 Medical will be available on July 28th and the Legal 9 Version on August 1st.
