Speech Recognition?



I have read WinXP supports speech recognition (SR). Can I download software freely to speak to my computer? I.e as an interface to the opperationg system, and within applications, such a text editor.

I am already aware of comercial packages

    Yes you can…I think it is built in within XP. It may depend on the version you are using.

    You have to enable it in Control Panel

    Windows XP supports speech recognition. However, the first requirement to use it is to have Windows XP SP1 or higher installed.

    The second requirement is to install the Microsoft Speech Recognition engine. This is available in either a) Office XP applications; b) XP Plus! Pack; or c) download and install the Microsoft Speech Software Development kit. ((a) and (b) are not free, but with (c), you need software specifically written to use it.)
